Hot Rod News

22/12/01
Last one for the Year I've had a chance to do some work on the tours section, adding pages for the Victorian State Rod Run, Queenscliff Rod Run, Wangaratta Rod Run and the Picnic in the Park at Mornington. The events page has also been updated with lots of new dates for 2002 events. We're happy to put this info online, as a freeby to the clubs. Just send us in your info and we'll make sure it gets up. This can be an ideal way of distributing flyers and entry forms, rather than the expense of posting out to all the clubs. Plus I've updated the links pages for all those that have requested links. Well that's it, see you all next year.
09/12/01
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Ho, Ho, Ho, maybe this year that little red roadster will be parked under the tree! From Dave and Greg here at Hot Rod Internet, we hope you have a safe and happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.
There may be one more update before the end of the year, just depending on what comes in. Greg's busy creating a new section all about building a hot rod, this should be on line early next year and will hopefully answer a few questions for those just starting out.
There's heaps more new links, the Rodders Forum is really starting to kick in and there's lots of good stuff for sale through the Swap Meet.
17/11/01 Klassik Kartoonz Welcome to the newest member of Hot Rod Internet Craig Sayers and his fantastic talent. I your looking for some unique custom artwork for a poster or T-shirt check out Craig's work at Klassik Kartoonz.
Greg's busy adding all the new links that have been submitted, these should be all online by the 20th.
12/11/01 Hot Rod Internet 2nd Anniversary Yes, they said we'd never make it .... Our 2nd anniversary. It's almost scary the time has gone so quickly! In this short time we have achieved everything we set out to do and some more. To all the Member sites thank you for the opportunity and we look forward bigger and better things in the new year. To all those that have emailed us, thanks for taking the time, we really appreciate it.
05/11/01 John's Picnic Both Dave and Greg were at the Picnic on the Sunday, along with what seemed to be every other petrol head in Oz. The place was packed with hot rods, customs muscle cars and street machines. Check it all out at http://www.geocities.com/johnspicnic2001. Whilst on the subject Greg has been using Geocities for some time now for the ASRF and DLRA sites plus his own home pages. They are very easy to set up, have minimal advertising and are relatively quick. Fortunately / Unfortunately some of these sites have become so popular they have exceeded the download limits of 1Mb by 3 to 5 times that and consequently Geocities is restricting access to some of these pages. We have just negotiated some additional space with our friends at GRAFF Computing and hope to have all our pages on the new service soon.
08/10/01 It's almost Christmas! and some of our members are preparing their websites with all the latest goodies for the giving season. The Australian Pedal Car company has some exciting new stock coming in. Scale Automobilia have just secured a shipment of a new Victor Bray die cast replica of his current doorslammer. The Old Tin site has also undergone a revamp, one Dave's video's of his treks to the States would make ideal Christmas viewing for any hot rodder. PS were sorry that we were a bit light on for updates this month, Dave's daughter Katie had a hospital visit and Greg lost a near and dear relative. So family placed a big strain on our limited resources.
08/09/01 New Look Greg has been working on a new look for HRI. Most of this work has been related to the new menu and navigation which now incorporates Javascript and Cascading Style Sheets. From our statistics 98% of our visitors have javascript compatible browsers. I'm sure you'll agree the new menu is so easy to use and get around the site. What this means for us is that future changes will be quicker and easier.(Hopefully) As always if your not happy, let us know.
27/08/01 Good Weekend Greg went to the All Makes Swap meet at the Fresh Center here in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon. Absolutely packed, there were more stalls and a bigger crowd than what is normally there for an all day Sunday meet. Although not that many people walking around with stuff in their hands.
Just received some fantastic photos from Ken Smith of the Goodguys West Coast Nationals that were on over the weekend, and some more photos from Nick Darling of the Cars in the Park event in South Africa.
Welcome to our newest member, Classic Mustang and Rod Stop. They can supply most of the parts you need for your rod, as well they build their own 28 - 40 chassis for your next project.
05/08/01 New Features Now that the Forum is up and running, there are a couple of new features that were currently working on to make Hot Rod Internet even better. But we'd also like to know if there is anything that you would like to see or change for that matter. Maybe you'd like to send us your comments?
John's Picnic will still be held this November, many of John's friends and Kustoms of Australia members are banding together to help out. There has been a memorial fund started so that John may make his dedication to Tina and plans are underway for an auction at the Picnic, what we need now are items for the auction. If you have something, anything that you would wish to donate, please contact Greg at gregwapling@hotmail.com. It could be something that your company produces, car parts, accessories, collectables (especially any signed).
23/07/01 New members Welcome to AJ's Hot Rods and Classic Restorations and Carburettors, the latest members of the Hot-Rod Internet family.
The tours pages have just undergone another major update, especially for South Australia and and the Tassie page is first information about a cruise Steve Young is organising after the 2002 Tasmania Regional Nationals. Greg has prepared this site for the ASRF, it currently contains all the information to make this a great event including entry forms, itinerary, and accomodation guide.
Mike Davidson has just released his latest development in the shape of some beautiful high performance aluminimum Cylinder Heads for Flathead Fords on the Flat Attack Racing site.
Hot Rod Heaven have just taken delivery of their latest vehicle, a 1929 Dodge sedan. But this is not any ordinary restoration, the sedan being stretched to include anoyher set of doors and sectioned to provide additional headroom and lastly split down the middle to make it wider and even more comfortable and luxourious. If you want a special vehicle for that special event, this would be hard to beat.
Lastly we have just received a couple of photos from a fellow rodder in the UK, Nick Darling. Nick has promised to send a few more over of some recent events, check 'em out in the Photo Gallery
13/07/01 Tina Katsanis It is with a great deal of personal sadness that we mark the passing of Tina Katsanis on 09/07/2001 after a relatively short illness. Wife and partner of John, known to many Rod and Custom enthusiasts through out Australia and the world. John and Tina were proprietors of John's Rod and Customs in Berwick, founders of Kustoms of Australia and hosts of the extremely popular John's Picnic held in November. To John and the family, our sincerest condolences.

The Island State Nats at Easter 2002 is going to be a great event and we will be going along with many other mainland rods. We do suggest you book the boat soon though (we are booked already). Dave has done a quick update on the Club List page to make it easier to read. States are now in alphabetical order. Please check your club's details and make sure they are current and advise us of any changes.
15/2/01 Lowrider Bicycles loridekatie.jpg (20882 bytes)Dave has built a 20" Dragster for himself and has als been building a Lowrider Bicycle for 5 year old Katie. He visited Loco Lowriders In Brunswick Street, Fitzroy to get some whitewall tyres. These are really cool proper whitewall tyres which are available for kids (16") and adult (20" and larger) bicycles. They stock some nice Retro Bikes as well as lots of lowrider accessories. They have just put up their own web pages at http://www.locolowriders.com/. These bikes have become very popular recently and are appearing at most major Hot Rod events.  This is a great way to get the kids involved although it is certainly not just kids building and riding them! Dave has now collected several more frames and will build one for Donna. (Once the '46 is finished) Not sure if Greg will dig out an old Malvern Star yet!
15/02/01 New for 2001 We have introduced a couple of new features for this year. We now have a Photo Gallery and a Forum these features are an attempt by HRI to build the Aussie Hot Rod Community. They are still in early stages at the moment. Please let us know if you have any ideas.
